THE DOM MARMION SOCIETY provides friendship and support to older people and the lonely – men and women – in the Dundrum area. In our ‘house’ beside the County Council, Sandyford Road, car park we have lots of activities; gentle aerobic exercises, indoor bowling, bingo, talks, guest singers / musicians, and bridge. And more! There are outings to places of interest (including a lovely lunch!), a Christmas Mass and Dinner and a Summer Party. Housebound or hospitalised members are visited. Anyone interested is most welcome to drop on Wednesday afternoons, see what is going on and have a ‘cuppa’ and a chat. ‘Younger’ helpers would be especially welcome.

Sowing Seeds:

This group plays an important part in our outreach programme. Communities in Haiti and Nigeria have benefited from their efforts. They raise funds which are dispersed in Haiti through the Sisters of Jesus and Mary who are part of our parish community. They have supported volunteer workers on several occasions.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul:

The Holy Cross Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) operates in Dundrum Parish. The SVP is a Christian voluntary organisation whose mission seeks to eliminate poverty, to provide support and friendship, to promote self-sufficiency and to work for social justice.

Our focus is on :

developing a practical approach to dealing with poverty alleviating its effects on individuals and families through working primarily in person- to-person contact by a unique system of family visitation seeking to achieve social justice and equality of opportunity for all citizens.

The Society respects the dignity of those who contact us, offering assistance and advice when sought – maintaining their dignity while assisting them towards long-term self- sufficiency in a relationship of friendship, trust and confidentiality.

Funds are raised through Church Collections (generally on the second Sunday of every month) and the annual Christmas appeal which takes place each December.
